If you envision yourself as a pathetic, undeserving loser, then obviously you won’t have the confidence to follow through on the chances for success that may be presented to you. Remember that your perception has all the ability to create your reality, so always perceive yourself as a success. This article explains 10 powerful tips on how to be confident in yourself.

HOW TO BE CONFIDENT IN YOURSELF: 10 TIPS

1) Acknowledge Your Talents:

You need to acknowledge the good points about yourself. Think about your positive abilities and whatever you are good at. Think of the acknowledgment or recognition you may have gotten from others, feed on these recognitions, and you will find yourself geared towards a more positive mindset that hungers and craves for more of these positive acknowledgments.

Investigate if you do not know what your talents are; find out what you enjoy doing. What brings pleasure to you; something worth while and noteworthy. Do you enjoy singing? Can you sing? Do your family and friends encourage you? Do people at your church encourage you? Take note. Ask yourself, what you were born to do.

2) Improve On Your Existing Traits:

Once you have identified the positive things that you may be good at, it is crucial for you to continue sharpening your skills. This will allow you to have a better chance of succeeding once the opportunity presents itself, and once you succeed in one endeavor, your success will build upon itself into yet another success. You must not start very high but disregard how week or insignificant existing traits can be, they will help you in moving to the next level.

3) Positive Thinking (HUGE):

You should never allow people to put you down. Take criticism in stride and shrug off negative comments about your endeavors. Stay away from negative people the best you can, and if you can, assert your confidence in the face of negative comments by replying with, “I guess this is a problem for you, but I appreciate the criticism.”

Don’t EVER put up with crap from anyone, not even a little, be the person you see yourself being on the screen of your mind. Act as though your dreams are already a reality. Do you think mega successful people put up with a little criticism? Not even close, they shut people down like that super quick.

4) Change Your Perspective About Yourself:

If you have always doubted yourself, it is time to stop and consider taking a different stance. Changing the way you think about yourself can go a long way in building massive self-confidence, so never let any self-doubt cloud your mind. If you encounter a setback that affects your morale, sit down, take a break, and then dust yourself off and keep on keeping on.

5) Try To Socialize With Assured People:

This will have the effect of you for improving self-esteem and building an optimistic outlook on life. Kind-hearted People who treat you with respect will make you feel good about yourself. Being around depressing people will drag you down and lessen your self-esteem.

6) Be Persistent And Don’t Give Up On Things So Easily:

At times things possibly will go wrong, but that doesn’t mean failure. By being persistent and achieving the desirable results can be all the more satisfying. This is how to build confidence, knowing that you can accomplish tasks that you set for yourself or have been set for you.

7) Be Optimistic:

Always look on the upside in every situation; it feels much better to be optimistic in an adverse situation. You will not be improving self-esteem by taking a pessimistic view and no doubt this will lead to depressing experiences. Losing a job need not be a negative situation, it way may well mean the door is opening on terrific new opportunities.

8) Cultivate Self-Motivation:

Being able to make yourself motivated is an important way for improving self-esteem and for increasing belief that you can accomplish whatever you feel like. Motivation may well be instigated by some circumstances or events.

Sport, music or the achievements of others can give that needed drive to succeed. You may well exceed previous limits set by yourself which will make you feel good about yourself and is another way of how to build confidence yourself.

9) Appreciate Your Achievements:

If you accomplish something above your expectations, make sure that you praise yourself, if it is something you are proud of. This is another way of how to build confidence by valuing yourself. You will feel proud of yourself and realize your self-worth. Be proud of what you can achieve. It is a common belief that if people feel good about themselves, they will be more successful in life as a whole.

10) Learn From Your Mistakes And Move On:

Never let a past failure stop you from pursuing your future. Your past is your past. Sometimes it may even make you cry. However, once that is done, it is done. Learn from it and move on. Focusing so much on your mistakes only waste time and make you feel a failure. Focus on what you should have done to avoid the recurrence of mistakes.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, confidence is a quality anyone can achieve as far as he or she employs the above techniques among many others. That is, for you to be confident in yourself you need to acknowledge your talents and improve your existing traits.

Develop positive thinking, change the perspective about you, which are likely to lower your confidence and be optimistic. Being persistent while appreciating your achievements also improves your confidence.

  1. Ok. These are excellent qualities that one should have in order to have, retain and maintain self confidence. I agree with all 10 ways that you list. I have been practicing and could use a little work on #1 because I have a lot of talent, haven’t really thought about seeing if I have more talent to use. Something to think about.

  3. If I were asked to choose my favourite tip, A J, I would struggle – I love them all!! And you could not have nailed it more, when you advise to find your strengths, believe in them, take criticisms in your stride when constructive but ditch negative thinking people, and (actually, this is possibly my favourite) give yourself a break when things go wrong and then pick yourself up and learn from it and carry on believing you can do it more than ever.

If I may add another couple of tips, I would suggest always face situations and people with sense of humour and with a smile. I don’t mean you turning into a Cheshire Cat!! But try to see the funny side in all circumstances, as making dramas will only increase your blood pressure but not your chances of success. And also, give yourself time, as success will not happen overnight.

Thank you, AJ, for a most uplifting post. I really enjoyed it!!

  6. Excellent post. I’m actually struggling wth my parents accepting my career transition even though the path they set out for me (which I did follow before I got out of it) made me very unhappy and cost my health. When I was visiting this past weekend, I ended up getting a of crap from them and they said very hurtful things about me and my current path. While I did feel initially hurt, I also stood my ground because I believe in myself even when they don’t. I love your response: “I guess this is a problem for you, but I appreciate the criticism.” I will use it the next time in future situations. As much as I love my parents, I will have to distance myself as they are bringing me down.
